Bongani was born in Diepkloof and started playing cello at a young age at the Diepkloof Hall. His charisma and personality on stage soon earned him a place in the African Youth Ensemble (A.Y.E). He has toured many countries including India, France, London, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Mauritius, performing with various groups and musicians. He has also worked with the South African choreographer, Gregory Maqoma.
