George Gobingca Mxadana

Music Director and Conductor of the Imilonji kaNtu Choral Society and Chairman of Mzantsi Traditional Orchestra, is the vocal trainer. George has also arranged a number of the performance pieces.

Laurie Levine



Singer-songwriter and author of the Drum Cafe's book, Traditional Music of South Africa, Laurie boasts a rich understanding of music and musical processes. In 2007 she released her debut album, Unspoken, which was nominated for a South Africa music award (SAMA). Laurie performs regularly in and around Johannesburg with world-class musicians and has showcased her music on the stages of some of South Africa's most popular music festivals. Her second album will be completed later this year.

Pops Mahomed       

  

Composer, arranger, producer, performer, teacher. Pops is an internationally renowned virtuoso in the field of indigenous African instruments. Numerous albums have been released under his own label the Fucha-Rist, with more on the way. Pops writes scores for film documentaries and radio jingles. He has performed with the JPO, JMI and SA Chamber Orchestras. He is currently working with Andreas Vollenweider, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Zayne Bhika, and Dizu Plaaitjies. He holds workshops for children around the world with the preservation of traditional music at heart.

Neill Solomon

                                                                                      

From his early days fronting the classic Rock group the Uptown Rhythm Dogs through The Passenger years to his solo work, Neill has shown to be one of South Africa’s finest singer-songwriters. Of the albums that he has cut (The Occupant, Rule of the Swallow and The Gathering of the Beasts) he has produced a number of chart singles. Neill also boasts an impressive list of scores for theatre, TV and film, including the award-winning The Angel, the Bicycle and the Chinaman's Finger.

Anthony Caplan

 

Anthony is a prolific composer and arranger of cross-over African music, including Drumstruck, The Moon Prince and Symphony Makuvatsine. His most recent work, Men-Jaro, commissioned by dance choreographer Vincent Mantsoe won a Bessie Award in New York. Anthony has taught African music in schools in London and Norway. His company, Music Workshop, specialises in the manufacture, tuning and servicing of steel pan instruments.

Ross Johnson BMus 

 

Ross, at 23 years old, is one of the world’s leading experts on the African Marimba. His company, amaAmbush Productions, teaches over 400 students at various South African Schools. His marimba groups have performed throughout Africa, America, Europe and Asia. Ross's unique marimba teaching method has been published and he currently holds the Guiness World Record for the largest marimba band in the world. Ross learnt to play the penny whistle with buskers on the streets of Cape Town.
